Robert Thomas Ferguson, Jr., affectionally known as Icky, was born on October 2, 1941. He was the third eldest born to the parentage of the late Robert Thomas (R.T.) Ferguson, Sr., and Ola Mae Marsh Ferguson in Wilcox County, GA. Robert, six of his siblings, and their older cousin, the late Pastor Harold “Baby Son” Marsh, were all raised by their maternal grandmother, the late Mrs. Adel Gay Marsh, after their mother passed. Robert departed his earthly life on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Crisp County, GA.
Robert graduated from Excelsior High School in Rochelle, Georgia. His love and passion for cars led him to take up automotive engineering at Savannah State University. Robert later joined The United States Air Force and began his career as an aircraft mechanic. After being Honorably Discharged from The United States Air Force, Robert gained employment at Robins Air Force Base where he retired as a Deputy Branch Chief. After retirement, his passion for cars kicked in and he began working at Walmart Supercenter as a Supervisor in the automotive department.
Robert joined Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He was a Deacon as well as a faithful member until his death.
Robert was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Myrtice J. Ferguson. No children were born into this union.
Robert was proceeded in death by his wife, his parents, 3 brothers, Dr. James A. Ferguson, John A. Ferguson and Marsh Ferguson, and 1 sister, Barbara L. Ferguson Armstrong. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, 1 son, Benjamin Ferguson, 1 grandson, Ashe S. Ferguson (Hawkinsville, GA), 2 brothers, Dr. Clifford L. (Anna) Ferguson (Kensington, MD) and Lanier Ferguson (Nashville, TN), 2 sisters, Rose Mary Middleton (Warner Robins, GA) and Precious Muhammad (Hampton, GA), 2 sisters-in-law, Barbara A. Ferguson (Atlanta, GA) and Queenie M. Ferguson (Decatur, GA); 4 nieces, Jamiesina Brown, Marshia Ferguson, Jamie Ferguson, and Carla Ferguson; 6 nephews, Michael Morris, Sr., Chea Ferguson, James Ferguson II, Leru Ferguson, Clifford Ferguson, Jr., Christopher Ferguson and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and grieving friends.
Robert also leaves to cherish his memory, a very special friend and confidant of over 30 years, Ms. Gloria Pitts, a very special cousin who has been his shadow from childhood, Mr. Xavier (Man) Ferguson, Ms. Michelle Coley and Mr. Dennis Walker who was always just a phone call away.
